BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Ren-Ke Li is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is also a Senior Scientist at the Toronto General Research Institute, University Health Network working in the field of stem cell transplantation and tissue engineering. He completed his M.D. at Harbin Medical University in China and his Ph.D. in Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Toronto. He became an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in 1993 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2002.
Dr. Ren-Ke Li is the recipient of the Canada Research Chair in Cardiac Regeneration (Tier 1) of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and was a Career Investigator of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. He has published 203 peer-reviewed papers in very good Journals and He has been invited to contribute several commentaries and viewpoint articles and is an international opinion leader in his field.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr. Ren-Ke Li’s research focuses on translational research to apply new insights discovered through basic science research to clinical applications for heart regeneration and repair after myocardial infarction. His research areas includes: Cell transplantation into damaged myocardial tissue to regenerate myocardium and restore heart function and Tissue engineering to create a muscle graft using stem cells in combination with biomaterials for repair of cardiac defects. He has used stem cells; gene therapy and tissue engineering technique to regenerate and rejuvenate heart for restore heart function.
