BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Kelli Bullard Dunn, MD, FACS, FASCRS, has served as Senior Associate Dean for Statewide Initiatives and Outreach at the University of Louisville School of Medicine since May 1, 2013. Dr. Bullard Dunn is a Professor of Surgery, and has also served as Associate Director for Clinical Programs and Director of the Colon and Rectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Program at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center (JGBCC) since 2011. She is board certified in both general surgery and in colon and rectal surgery, and has longstanding interest in the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal and anal cancers, precancerous conditions, hereditary malignancies, and other colorectal conditions.
Dr. Bullard Dunn received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She trained in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota. She served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota from 2001 to 2005. She was then recruited to Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) and the University at Buffalo/SUNY in 2005, and served as Division Chief for Colon and Rectal Surgery from 2009 to 2011. Dr. Bullard Dunn joined the faculty of the University of Louisville and the JGBCC in October, 2011. Dr. Bullard Dunn’s research interests focus on the growth and progression of colorectal carcinoma. Her work has been recognized by receipt of the VFW Surgical Oncology Researcher Award, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Career Development Award, the Society of University Surgeons Foundation Junior Faculty Award, and the Wyeth-Society of University Surgeons Foundation Clinical Scholar Award. She was previously a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Colorectal Cancer Screening Committee and was the RPCI Principal Investigator for the NCCN Multi-Institutional Colon/Rectal Outcomes Project. She served for six years on the Research Committee of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Foundation (ASCRSRF), and currently serves as a Trustee for the ASCRSRF. She also serves on the American College of Surgeons Board of Governors.
Dr. Bullard Dunn is a member of the Executive Council of the Society of University Surgeons, the Board of Trustees for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Research Foundation, the American Surgical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Association for Academic Surgery, the Association for Surgical Education, the American Medical Association and the Association of Women Surgeons. She is Section Editor for the Current Status section of Diseases of the Colon and Rectum and serves on the editorial boards of the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and CME Today. She is also an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She has authored more than 130 journal articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and has lectured nationally and internationally about colon and rectal diseases. Dr. Bullard Dunn has been named as one of the Best Doctors in America and one of America’s Top Surgeons.
