Robert Kinobe
Senior LecturerPhysiology and Pharmacology
School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences
Australia
BIOGRAPHY:
Robert attained a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM) at Makerere University Kampala in 1996, following which he worked as a veterinarian as well as a junior academic staff at the same university for 2 years. In 1999 Robert commenced doctoral studies at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Queensland, focusing on the role of cytochrome P450 enzymes in the initiation of autoimmune reactions in anti-epileptic drug–induced hypersensitivity reactions. In 2003, Robert attained a PhD in Pharmacology and took up Postdoctoral studies at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Queen’s University Ontario Canada. In 2008, Robert was appointed to a veterinary pharmacology lectureship position in the School of Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences at James Cook University. Robert has also been a recipient of a prestigious Canadian Institute of Health Research Postdoctoral fellowship through the gaseous transmitter research training program and Canadian Pharmacological Society Boehringer-Ingelheim 2007 Postdoctoral award for significant contribution to pharmacology research. Robert has made tremendous achievements in several aspects of his profession and research areas including the rational design and evaluation of selective inhibitors of heme oxygenase, an enzyme that breaks down senile red blood cells into bile pigments (biliverdin and bilirubin) and carbon monoxide, and the evaluation of the (patho)physiological roles of heme oxygenases in disease processes. In 2012, Robert attained membership and registration by examination, of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientist.
