BIOGRAPHY:
Nikolas P. Lemos was born in Athens, Greece and currently lives in San Francisco, California where he is Clinical Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco and Chief Forensic Toxicologist and Forensic Laboratory Director at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City and County of San Francisco.
Immediately before moving to California, he was Head of Toxicology at St. George’s Hospital Medical School of the University of London and before that a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science at London’s South Bank University.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminalistics and Forensic Chemistry from the State University of New York – College at Buffalo, a Master of Science in Forensic Science specializing in Criminalistics and Forensic Toxicology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York and a Doctorate in Forensic Medicine and Science specializing in Analytical and Forensic Toxicology from the University of Glasgow in Scotland.
He is the holder of many scholarships, research and equipment grants and awards including a 2005 Proclamation of Achievement by the 109th Congress of the United States of America. He has co-authored over several peer-reviewed published papers and abstracts, as well as book chapters and has previously served as Science Editor of Medicine, Science and the Law, the official journal of the British Academy of Forensic Sciences. He continues to serve on numerous journal editorial boards and professional committees. He has provided expert testimony on matters pertaining to forensic toxicology in over 250 court proceedings.
He is Member of The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists, the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, the California Association of Criminalists, the California Association of Toxicologists, the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors, the American Chemical Society, the British Academy of Forensic Sciences, and affiliate member of the National Association of Medical Examiners. He is Fellow of the Toxicology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Science and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (D-ABFT).

Characterisation of postmortem redistribution (PMR) and postmortem interval (PMI) in Forensic Toxicology
Development and validation of analytical methodologies for the detection and quantitation of alcohol, drugs and other substances in toxicology-related specimens
The evaluation of keratinous biological matrices in the determination of past exposure to substances
The application of LC/MS/MS to Forensic Science
Drug testing and interpretation in alleged sexual assault cases
Epidemiology studies in Forensic Toxicology
